AFCB Ladies 6 - 0 Frome Town Ladies

Frome Town made the short trip across the border looking for their first 3 points of the new season at Chapel Gate on sunday.
The game started rather scrappy for the opening 20 minutes as the cherries seemed a little lethargic and uncomfortable with the long ball and run efforts from Frome; But, it was on 22 minutes that a whipped cross from Michy Keehan found Lisa Langrish 10 yards out, Langrish looked to shoot but was brought down clumbsely by Frome No5. Langrish stepped up to the spot and slotted home for the Cherries.

Frome kept up their long ball tactics and were nearly rewarded with a spectacular strike from No7 who ran onto a loose ball, only to see Simkin push her effort around the post. The Cherries continued to be quiet for much of the first half until the 40th when some fine link up play from Lauren Little, Kirsty Bell and Ali Goater saw Lindsey Roe released on the right, her shot was saved well. Roe regained possession and pulled back to Langrish who's goal bound drive was also well blocked.

Frome remained pinned in their defending third for the remaining 5 minutes and Roe took advantage with some individual skill to beat the full back and drill a low well placed shot into the back of the net on the stroke of half time.

HT 2 - 0

The second half began much the same as the first, with both teams looking some what jaded. Spectators had to wait for the 62nd minute for some serious action when Bell laid a nicely weighted ball back to Keehan to strike cleanly from 20yrds into the roof of the net. Shortly after the restart Sain tilly came on to replace Janie Morgan, with the cherries making some minor tactical changes in the middle. The game appeared to open up slightly as Frome pushed high up the pitch in and attempt to pressure the cherries back line. As a result Heydon was able to pick out Roe on her own who fed Langrish on the run, taking the ball neatly around the Frome No1 netting her second.

With the game nearing the end Roe picked up slight back problem and was replaced by the competent Carrie Haydon. The game slowed as it entered the last 10 minutes, but the persistent Bournemouth attack saw bell slip in the 5th on 84 minutes. And to finish the game Sam Howarth popped the ball wide to Little who whipped a searching ball to Langrish on a hat-trick finishing well for Bournemouth with a low placed shot.

Not the best of performances in recent weeks, but 3 points and 6 goals is a result to be pleased with.
