Happy New Year. After a little
break, the season continues.
The top two clashed in the
first Sunday of 2008 with AFC
Bournemouth trailing Reading
by five points. The two sides
met earlier in the season when
the points were shared in a
1-1 draw back in September.
New signing Amy Carr started
in goal for the home side
while central defender Rebecca
Todd was called up following
excellent performances in the
Reserves.
Reading gained the
immediate advantage by scoring
in only the third minute,
Jenny Webb drilling the ball
home from and acute angle
after Rachel Fell's double
shot. Her fourth strike in six
games. Reading had several
chances to extend their lead
before Michelle Keehan
levelled for the Cherries.
Reading were awarded a penalty
for handball on 26 minutes,
the leagues leading goal
scorer Laura Woodley saw her
effort saved by Cherries
number 1 Rachel Simkin.
Just after the break,
Reading regained the lead when
Kayleigh Hines headed her
first goal of the season from
Emma Jayne Pearmine's corner,
which proved to be the winner.
Having extended their lead
at the top to eight points,
Reading's Frank Rodriguez said
"The girls were fantastic
given the importance of the
game and the conditions. Their
character again shone through,
which bodes well for the rest
of the season, starting with
another tough game away to
Chesham next week".
